How to Get Started with Revolut
Revolut bundles banking, investing and crypto into one app. Here's how to set it up and pick the right plan for your needs.
Before you start
Have a government ID and your phone handy — Revolut's onboarding is almost entirely app-based and can take as little as five minutes for basic verification.
Step 1: Download the app and sign up
Install Revolut from the App Store or Google Play and register with your phone number. You'll receive an SMS code to confirm your number.
Step 2: Verify your identity
Scan your government ID and take a quick selfie video for facial verification. Most accounts are approved within minutes, though occasionally manual review adds a day or two.
Step 3: Choose a plan
Revolut offers Standard (free), Plus, Premium, Metal, and Ultra tiers. Standard is enough for most people's day-to-day banking; paid tiers add perks like higher free ATM withdrawals, travel insurance, and better exchange rates on weekends. Start with Standard and upgrade only if you'll actually use the perks.
Step 4: Top up your account
Add funds via debit/credit card for instant top-ups, or set up a bank transfer for larger amounts without card fees.
Step 5: Explore investing and crypto
Inside the app, the Invest tab lets you buy fractional shares and ETFs, while the Crypto tab supports buying, holding, and swapping major cryptocurrencies. Both are opt-in and separate from your main balance, so you can use Revolut purely for banking if you prefer.
Security basics
Enable biometric login (Face ID/fingerprint) and set up a PIN for the app. Revolut also lets you freeze your card instantly from the app if it's lost — a feature worth knowing before you need it.
